SPARK Start Curriculum

Day 1

healthy classroom

A healthy classroom is built on clarity and consistency. In this module, SPARK Start teachers focus on establishing clear routines and high expectations from day one. Teachers will examine the daily structures that support learning and learn how to explicitly teach and reinforce expectations. By the end of this module, teachers will have a clear, realistic plan for creating a predictable, calm environment where students know what is expected and can focus on learning with confidence.

Day 2

A Backup Plan

In this module, SPARK Start teachers develop a classroom management plan that aligns rules, consequences, and consistent follow-through. Teachers will learn how to respond calmly and confidently to student behavior, maintain high expectations, and implement a clear backup plan when challenges arise. This module empowers teachers to manage behavior with confidence, knowing they have a plan that supports learning, relationships, and a healthy classroom culture.

Day 3

Lesson Design: Strong Beginning, Flexible Middle, Comprehensive Ending

Clear lesson design creates confidence—for teachers and students. In this module, SPARK Start teachers learn how to design lessons around a clear learning objective using the SPARK lesson structure: a Strong Beginning, Flexible Middle, and Comprehensive Ending. Teachers will examine how each part of the lesson supports student learning and practice planning lessons that are focused, intentional, and manageable. By the end of this module, teachers will have a repeatable lesson design process they can rely on every day.

Day 4

Beginnings & Endings

“No attention, no engagement, no learning!”

The final SPARK Start module is dedicated to the importance of beginnings and endings and how purposeful the teacher needs to be when planning these key areas of learning. Students tend to remember that which comes first and last in a learning cycle, so these learning segments become vital as teachers prepare their lessons.
